COMA unveils cutting-edge contemporary art gallery in Marrickville

COMA has unveiled a new flagship gallery space in the heart of Marrickville, opening with a homecoming solo exhibition of new works by New Mexico-based Australian artist Justin Williams.

Inspired by the major warehouse-style galleries of Los Angeles, the 490-square-metre space, located at 37 Chapel Street, has been transformed from a former coffee factory warehouse into a cutting-edge contemporary gallery, featuring an expansive exhibition space, private viewing rooms, on-site storage, and merchandise space.

Sydney Dance Company’s acclaimed work Somos premieres in Melbourne, returning to Sydney for an encore season

Sydney Dance Company’s 2025 program launches with Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela’s smash-hit Somos; a highly anticipated Melbourne premiere at the Arts Centre, 13 – 23 March, before a return season at Sydney Dance Company’s Neilson Studio, 27 March – 6 April.

Somos, translated as “we are” in Spanish, is a tender and powerful work, featuring a journey through evocative solos, intimate duets and trios – all imbued with a distinctly Spanish essence. Known for his distinctive emotive pairings, Bonachela’s work celebrates the strength and individuality of the dancers, while delving into the compelling dynamics between them.

Acclaimed cellist and conductor Umberto Clerici directs La Musica Notturna, with world premiere composition by Peter Gregson

Acclaimed cellist and Chief Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Umberto Clerici will perform with Omega Ensemble as guest director and soloist for La Musica Notturna. A musical celebration of the cello, the program traverses time, tradition and style, featuring works by Boccherini, Vivaldi, Sollima, alongside a world premiere by award-winning composer and cellist Peter Gregson. The concerts will take place at Melbourne Recital Centre on 24 March 2025, Sydney’s City Recital Hall on 25 March 2025 and Newcastle City Hall on 27 March 2025.

After a career spanning more than 20 years as a gifted cellist and orchestral musician, Italian-born Umberto Clerici was appointed Chief Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2022, just four years after making his conducting debut. As a cellist, Clerici remains in high demand worldwide, having performed on the stages of the world’s most prestigious concert halls and as Principal Cello for the Teatro Regio di Torino and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2025 Clerici joined IMG Artists’s high-calibre roster for general management, and will continue to develop his career in opera, returning to Opera Queensland to lead a production of Puccini’s La bohème.

BUNDANON TO PRESENT NEW COMMISSIONS EXAMINING OUR INTERCONNECTIONS WITH THE NATURAL WORLD

Bundanon has today announced the first exhibition in its 2025 program, ‘Thinking together: Exchanges with the natural world’, which will present major commissions by contemporary artists Robert Andrew, Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan and Keg de Souza, presented alongside intricate paintings by the Martu communities of central Western Australia, and video works by Sorawit Songsataya and Tina Stefanou, from 1 March – 8 June 2025.

‘Thinking together: Exchanges with the natural world’ explores themes of reciprocity and collaboration between the human and non-human.

‘Thinking together: Exchanges with the natural world’ explores themes of reciprocity and collaboration between the human and non-human. Each work responds to notions of community, and considers the possibility that new knowledge can only be created through a process of thinking together, via communal making, cooperation between the species and embodying First Nations practices of knowledge sharing.
